For our final we were challenged with producing Ladue view. I played the role as anchor and I really enjoyed it. It was a change for me because I usually don't like being on camera, but I enjoyed creating Ladue view. I worked along side Grace Hensley which mad the experience even better. I believe the crew I accompanied by helped me become a better anchor. Overall everyone was hard working which made producing Ladue view a breeze.

This semester I really enjoyed working in the study and collaborating with with my classmates. I found it hard coming up with creative ideas for films, which was very discouraging. I often was given opportunities for projects, but given I am not able to drive made it hard to get to the locations. I especially enjoyed recording our school activities such as the pep rally. In addition I enjoyed working on set, it was a great experience for future knowledge. Overall I really enjoyed this class and recommend it for people with creative minds.
For project #3 I will probably base my project on GSA. GSA stands for gay straight alliance and it is an after school club. I would like to get the message GSA sends and try to put it all in a video. I will film a few participants in GSA, the club leaders, and even maybe the teachers that sponsor the club. The video will probably turn into a news package, but I am not completely sure yet.
On Monday,Grace and I finished the video we've been working on since the beginning of school. I didn't enjoy the process of making this video at all. The video seemed kinda forced to me, we didn't get a lot of freedom on what direction we wanted to the video to go. I learned that sometimes how you want things to go isn't always possible. If I could've done this project differently I definitely would. I would prefer that the video be about the school community instead of just the renovation.
The project I was looking forward to completing turned out to be impossible to put together. I was under the impression that the video was supposed to be based around the students of the school, but turns out it was supposed to be more about the new school. So I was supposed to be getting all the new parts of our building in the video, but that was too much of a challenge. With all the new rules in school it's extremely hard to get shots of all the new aspects of the school. Also getting students out of class to record them dancing was part of the problem, which also lead to the question what students do we include in the video. So i've decided to forget that project and begin a new project.
One of my main goals for this semester is expanding my profile, I would like to learn how to do different type of projects. Also I would like to do collaborations with people from different classes. Really one of my main goals in increasing my editing skills and actually putting the things I invision in my head into a project.I want to get to know my classmates and get to know the type of work they produce and enjoy doing.
Today in class are mini lesson was working on shooting good b-roll to prepare us for our final project, which is a news story. To me shooting b-roll comes easily, because I enjoy being behind the camera. Also i think it's good that we got this mini lesson in class so that our teacher is able to help correct us before we go out and record our final project.
Today in class our mini lesson was about natural sound and what we did was went out and found a place with sound (not noise). Once we found our spot we recorded a wide shot and an extreme tight shot. What we did to edit it was delete the audio to the wide shot and with the extreme tight shot we detached the audio and deleted to video clip. We then proceeded put the audio of the extreme tight shot under the video clip of the wide shot. I think this is a very important skill to know when creating a news story, because when watching the news i've seen this technique many of times.
While creating my six word story project I chose to base my story around my brother just so that if I wanted to reshoot any of my shoots I know he would always be available. The type of shots I used weren't purposely selected, I just sequenced the shots in the order that looked the best and in the order that contributed to my video in the best way. While creating this project I learned that it's okay to set the camera up for a few minutes and just record your subject until you think you have at least a few seconds of good content. Overall I didn't really favor the project because it was hard to only use six word to explain the point I was trying to get across. On the other hand I did love that we got to pick from nineteen different type of shots.
During class today we watched videos that are going to help us understand how to put a news story together. I got a lot of content from theses videos, some of the things that stood out to me are that the video clips tell a story. Each video clip contributes to the narration, but sometimes the videos tell the audience what the narrater doesn't. The narrater delivers the facts, while the video clips could deliver the location and the characters deliver emotions. Also you want to make sure none of the two clips look the same. It's the same template as in there's rising conflict then a resolution near the end of the video.
